Echo News TV LLC: The Hawk Takes Flight – A Chilly Winter Bomb Cyclone Poised to Descend on the Jersey Shore This Weekend

Monmouth County, NJ -With a brisk February wind that seems to echo Lou Rawls’ soulful refrain from "Dead End Street," the legendary Hawk makes its dramatic entrance. In Black American folklore, "The Hawk" is more than a wintry breeze—it’s a mighty, invisible force, flapping its wings and sweeping through towns as a polar vortex blast threatens the Jersey Shore this weekend. Locals along the coast are preparing for the sharp talons of this rapidly intensifying storm, a phenomenon that transforms ordinary cold into the unforgettable bite of winter.

According to CNN meteorologists, a bomb cyclone emerges when frigid air clashes with the Atlantic’s warmer waters. This collision sets off fierce winds, whipping snow or rain into the streets and creating an atmosphere reminiscent of The Hawk’s legendary chill. As the storm’s wings spread, sidewalks become slippery runways, and gusts send debris swirling, making even a simple walk a daring adventure.

A recent study by Fritzen, Lang, and Vittorio, "Trends and Variability of North American Cool-Season Extratropical Cyclones: 1979-2019," spotlights the volatile nature of these extratropical cyclones (ETCs). The research reveals how ETCs can trigger abrupt drops in air pressure—events that are notoriously hard to predict and often catch unsuspecting residents off guard. These cyclones act as global energy couriers, transporting powerful weather systems and shaping regional climates. Their impact peaks in March, so this weekend’s visit from The Hawk could bring not just bone-chilling temperatures, but also severe weather events that demand attention.

Attention, Middletown: Per a report from the Middletown Patch, officials are urging residents to brace for extreme cold, with temperatures expected to remain dangerously low until noon on Sunday. The National Weather Service has issued an extreme cold warning, forecasting wind chills as low as 16 degrees below zero statewide and 26 degrees below zero in Sussex County.

Residents are advised to stay alert for falling tree limbs and possible power outages. Such biting wind chills can cause hypothermia or frostbite if precautions aren’t taken, so bundle up and heed the warnings as The Hawk stretches its wings across New Jersey.

Lenape, the 14th State? American Indian Treaties Reimagined.

Cambridge, MA - During the American Revolution, representatives of the Continental Congress sought to forge alliances with Native nations through treaties, much as they did with European powers like France. This talk will examine the failure of these early diplomatic efforts, focusing on the treaties signed with the Maliseet in 1776 (Treaty of Watertown) and the Lenape in 1778 (Treaty of Fort Pitt). Philip Deloria will highlight notable provisions in these agreements—including their shift from Native diplomatic forms to (colonial) legalistic ones—and consider how truly reciprocal and respected treaties with Native nations might have altered the very nature of the United States. The talk will invite an imaginative rethinking of the course of American history, a creative thought experiment that centers Indigenous land, diplomacy, and sovereignty.

Free admission. Free event parking at the 52 Oxford Street Garage starting at 5:00 pm. Presented by the Peabody Museum of Archaeology & Ethnology and the Harvard Museums of Science and Culture. This lecture is presented to mark the 250th Anniversary of the United States Declaration of Independence. Advance registration recommended for in-person and online attendance. Lenape, the 14th State? Report Indicates Blood of 8-Year-Old Niece Discovered on Jeans of Man Charged with Family's Murder by Sara Winick, Middletown Patch | Contributions by Carly Baldwin

Colts Neck, NJ - The tranquil horse country of Colts Neck, NJ—a town renowned for its sprawling estates and celebrity residents, including Dana Owens (Queen Latifah), Jon Stewart, and Bruce Springsteen—has been shaken to its core by a tragedy more haunting than any television drama. This case has left investigators and neighbors alike searching for answers amid heartbreak and suspicion.

On November 20, 2018, a devastating fire erupted at 15 Willow Brook Road, the home of Keith and Jennifer Caneiro and their two children, 11-year-old Jesse and 8-year-old Sophia. What began as smoke billowing quietly above the tree line soon turned to horror: all four family members were found dead, with Keith having suffered fatal gunshot wounds. The affluence and perceived safety of Colts Neck—where privacy and privilege are prized—could not protect against the darkness that would soon be revealed.

As first responders battled the flames, a second fire broke out several miles away at the Ocean Township home of Keith's brother, Paul Caneiro. Paul, his wife, and their two daughters escaped unharmed, but the timing and proximity of the blazes were anything but coincidental. Within hours, Paul Caneiro was arrested—first accused of arson at his own residence, and later charged with the murders of his brother’s entire family.

In a shocking detail reported by Sara Winick of the Middletown Patch, authorities revealed that the blood of 8-year-old Sophia was found on a pair of jeans belonging to Paul Caneiro. The prosecution’s case has leaned heavily on forensic evidence, including DNA results generated by the sophisticated STRmix software. The defense, meanwhile, has attempted to cast doubt by pointing to the presence of a third Caneiro brother, Corey, and questioning whether all possible leads have been exhausted. Superior Court Judge Marc C. Lemieux has permitted the introduction of the STRmix-derived evidence at trial, which is now scheduled for March 2025.

Monmouth County Prosecutor Christopher Gramiccioni called the crime "one of the most heinous cases we've ever investigated or seen." The Colts Neck community, accustomed to the quietude of rural luxury, has been left to grapple with the devastation of a family wiped out in a single afternoon. The horror was punctuated by the surreal normalcy of that day: a neighbor mistook the smoke for a fireplace fire, a landscaper dialed 911, and the family’s nanny was left unharmed.

But the twists in this tragedy did not end with the fire. In a separate report by Carly Baldwin from July 16, 2019, Paul Caneiro was also charged with insurance fraud—an allegation that adds another layer of intrigue to an already complex case. Prosecutors contend that Caneiro attempted to profit from the fire at his own home, suggesting a calculated plan extending beyond the boundaries of familial betrayal.

As the legal proceedings inch forward, the story of the Caneiro family has become a somber parable for Colts Neck—a place where even the illusion of security can be shattered in an instant. The questions that remain are as chilling as the November winds that swept through Willow Brook Road on that fateful day: What truly happened behind those elegant gates? Can justice provide solace in the wake of such profound loss? And, most haunting of all, might the answers lie closer to home than anyone dares to imagine? Echo News TV LLC will continue to follow this case as new details emerge, offering insight into one of New Jersey’s most tragic and mystifying criminal investigations.

Tamika Mallory is an attorney and activist, co–host of the TMI podcast, perhaps best known for organizing the 2017 Women’s march. She continues her work as an author and organizer online @tamikadmallory on Instagram. Our guest today is Reverend Dr. Robert Schenck. What role have white evangelicals played in the current struggle against fascism? Once a political actor tasked with influencing SCOTUS to overturn Roe v. Wade, Reverend Schenck has since come to regret his involvement with the religious right, which he describes as a “cult.” He now calls himself a “dissenting Evangelical organizer.” Our hosts ask the reverend what brought him around. Long live Native Land Pod!
