FROM THE DESK OF JAMES JEROME HANKINS. Author, journalist (NABJ), coach, counselor, cradle catholic, caregiver, Army veteran, union member, former local NAACP President, graduate of North Carolina A&T State University, and Teacher-For-Life. For parents and students planning to register to vote and cast ballots in the November 3rd midterm election. LESSON #42 of 54. MALICIOUS V. HELPFUL.

These three men—Donald Trump, John Thune, and Mike Johnson—often act in concert, exemplifying policies and decisions shaped by self-interest, exclusion, and a disregard for broader societal welfare. Their actions include: (1) Canceling $168 million in Maternal Health Grants to HBCUs; (2) Defunding research into racial disparities, particularly in diseases such as lupus and maternal mortality that disproportionately affect Black Americans; and (3) Revoking $11 million from Catholic charities dedicated to caring for migrant children. Furthermore, Mr. Trump is currently under a court-ordered prohibition from raising funds for charitable organizations, as a result of judicial determinations regarding his handling of resources from nine distinct charities. He has also continued to make demonstrably false statements regarding Pope Leo XIV.

Now, a few words about one very helpful doctor and the 72 who were called. Dr. Charles Drew was an African American surgeon who pioneered methods of storing blood plasma for transfusion and organized the first large -scale blood bank in the U.S.  Dr. Charles Drew, not only revolutionized the field of medicine but also set enduring standards for scientific excellence and humanitarian service.  He directed the blood plasma program of the United States and Great Britain in WORLD War II, but resigned after a ruling that “the blood of Africans American would be segregated.”  Dr. Drew’s success was one of the reasons why racist school boards ban the teaching of real Black history in public school systems.   In 1944. The NAACP honored Drew with its Spingarn Medal for “the highest and noblest achievement” by an African American.  Dr. Drew’s legacy serves as a powerful testament to the impact of intellectual rigor, ethical leadership, and unwavering commitment to the common good—qualities that continue to inspire students of law, investigative journalism, and science alike.  Charles Drew (1904-1950) | BlackPast.org

In Luke (a Physician) 10:1-24, “Jesus appoints and sends out 72 (or 70) Disciples ahead of him in pairs to towns he planned to visit, instructing them to proclaim that the kingdom of God is near. They were to travel light—without money, bags, or sandals—relying on hospitality, while healing the sick and witnessing the fall of Satan.  Bible scholars said this happened around 29-30 A.D. while Jesus was traveling toward Jerusalem to face his crucifixion Luke 10:1-24 KJV - After these things the LORD appointed - Bible Gateway
