Red Bank, NJ — As August 2026 unfolds, Red Bank is once again proving why it remains one of New Jersey’s most vibrant cultural hubs. The town’s streets, parks, and historic landmarks are preparing for a month of celebration rooted in Black American history, community pride, and family joy.
The highlight of the season is the Count Basie Birthday Weekend Block Party, a free outdoor celebration honoring the legendary jazz icon. Families can expect live music, street performers, food trucks, and the unveiling of a New Jersey Black Heritage Trail marker — a moment that ties Red Bank’s past to its present in a powerful way.
Just blocks away, the T. Thomas Fortune Cultural Center continues its tradition of uplifting Black press history and community storytelling. The Tiny Porch Jazz Series returns on August 15 with the Lezlie Harrison Trio, inviting families to bring lawn chairs and enjoy soulful music under the summer sky. Later in the month, the center hosts the Art of Social Justice Summer
Session, a reflective workshop blending performance art, writing, and cultural education.
Together, these events create a tapestry of joy, heritage, and unity — reminding families that Red Bank is not just a town, but a cultural heartbeat.
