Reckless Bus Ride in Lakewood: Driver Abandons Wheel Mid-Trip

LAKEWOOD, NJ -- A Bus-tastrophe on Wheels! May 28, 2025

In what can only be described as a real-life audition for "Worst Driver Ever," a Philadelphia man managed to rack up 47 counts of child endangerment and a laundry list of motor vehicle violations--all in one bus ride. Xiao Lei Lei Tian, 41, apparently decided that driving a bus full of 47 children and three adults wasn't challenging enough. So, naturally, he spiced things up by standing in the aisle of the speeding bus on the Garden State Parkway. Yes, you read that right--he left the steering wheel to fend for itself. According to Lakewood Capt. Gregory Staffordsmith, a witness, reported that Tian was not only speeding and swerving like he was in a video game but he was also glued to his cell phone. Multitasking goals? Not quite. At one point, he took things to the next level by abandoning the driver's seat entirely, leaving everyone on board to wonder if the bus was now on autopilot.
The bus, which was traveling from Rhode Island to a private school in Lakewood, eventually ran out of gas and came to a stop near Cedar Bridge Avenue and New Hampshire Avenue. Talk about running on empty--literally and figuratively. Thankfully, no injuries were reported, though we imagine the passengers now have some wild stories to tell.
A Lakewood police officer stumbled upon the scene and was quickly filled in on Tian's, let's call it, creative driving techniques. While the bus may have been out of gas, Tian's list of charges is fully fueled and ready to roll.

Door to Door Salesman Convicted of Aggravated Manslaughter

TOMS RIVER, NJ -- Michael H. Tsamas, a door-to-door salesman from Middlesex County, has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for the fatal stabbing of Joseph Delgardio in May 2022. Superior Court Judge Guy P. Ryan handed down the sentence, which requires Tsamas to serve at least 17 years before becoming eligible for parole under the No Early Release Act. Tsamas, who was convicted of aggravated manslaughter and multiple weapons charges, was working for a company contracted by Verizon when he approached Delgardio's home. Suspecting a potential scam, Delgardio confronted Tsamas on the street, leading to a violent altercation in which Tsamas fatally stabbed him. Despite efforts by firefighters, Delgardio was pronounced dead at the scene. Tsamas, who remained at the scene, was initially arrested and taken to the Ocean County Jail. However, he was released under New Jersey Bail Reform before being returned to custody following his guilty verdict on March 26, according to court records.
