EXCERPT FROM MY BOOK: “WHAT WE BLACKS NEED TO DO”
For parents and students gearing up to make a difference, here's the call to action: register and vote against Trump and his MAGA politicians in the November 3, 2026, midterm election. This is Lesson #24 of 44: **A ROSE IS A ROSE.** In 1913, poet Gertrude Stein used those words in her poem “Sacred Emily.” It means exactly what it says—things are what they are.
Let’s face it: outspoken ultraconservatives and racists have a blatant disdain for Black and brown people. On February 4, 2020, the racist President Trump had his wife, First Lady Melania, present the Medal of Freedom to the racist Rush Limbaugh during his State of the Union address. “A ROSE IS A ROSE.” Now, Trump plans to posthumously award the Medal of Freedom to the family of his fellow racist, Charles Kirk, at Kirk's funeral. “A ROSE IS A ROSE.”
Rush Limbaugh appealed mainly to older audiences, but after his death, the plan was clear: recruit conservative youth who had either dropped out of high school or managed to navigate predominantly white colleges. A billionaire pumped over $4 million into this operation and brought in young Charlie Kirk to lead the charge. As the CEO of Turning Point USA, Kirk’s salary skyrocketed from a mere $27,000 in 2016 to $407,000 in 2021, according to Times Now.
