The Relaunched Echo's Political Analysis Weekend Report: Recap of the Harris-Trump Presidential Debate

September 14, 2024

Political Analysis Report

The Harris Trump Presidential Debate happened on Tuesday, September 10, 2024, at 9:00 P.M.,  at Philadelphia's National Constitution Center.  The debate had approximately 13,392,453 viewers. The highly anticipated debate ran for 90 minutes, providing each candidate two minutes to answer each question.

David Muir and Linsey Davis of ABC News effectively moderated the event with professionalism and nonpartisan behavior, which was quite refreshing. Both hosts diligently followed the second United States Presidential Debate protocol in an affirmative manner. Unlike previous moderators, they did not appear intimidated by former President Donald Trump. This was a notable departure from past debates, where moderators struggled to control or manage the former president's behavior.

The debate initiated with candidates greeting each other where Vice President Kamala Harris revealed both her ability to exercise political congeniality plus ethics by having the where with all to respectfully greet Trump despite his inability to meet her half way on the debate stage. The code of ethics of political parties behaving congenial to each other for the public is a strong indicator of character and integrity that made Trumps in ability to meet V.P. Kamala Harris halfway awkward or questionable right from the start. Viewers may wonder did Trump have a problem with Harris being Black or was his backing down from properly greeting her a flash of intimidation or fear? And here's why. Political congeniality, in particular, is important for former president Donald Trump because he has presented a lot of exaggeration on topics in the past, plus biased behavior. Trump's reluctance came off as if Harris was going to arrest him instead of debate with him, which could send a red flag to viewers on whose first impression would more than likely come off as competent and diplomatic around world leaders.

The debate focused on:

  • The Middle Class American Economy and Cost of Living

  • The Housing Crisis in America

  • Border Crisis

  • Unemployment

  • Democratic Candidate V.P. Kamala Harris's "Opportunity Economy Plan for America."

  • Republican Candidate Donald Trump's "2025 Plan for America"

  • Russian Ukrainian War plus

  • Hamas-Israeli War and more

Muir of ABC News asked Harris, "When it comes to the economy, do you believe Americans are better off than they were four years ago?" Harris shared about her confidence in "the ambition, the aspirations," plus "the dreams of the American people." And that is why she compiled a plan with experts to build  an "Opportunity Economy Plan for Americans." Harris's Opportunity Economy Plan would provide one of American history's most significant child tax credits. This means working American families with children could receive approximately $6000 per annual tax season while extending tax cuts for working families per Harris's proposal. Harris's Opportunity Economy Plan would also provide a $50,000 tax deduction for start-up small businesses. Harris also informed viewers that her opponent's plan, Donald Trump's 2025 Plan for America, "would result in a five trillion dollar deficit to the American consumer because he seeks to put a 20% tax on everyday goods that Americans rely on." And this is when the verbal boxing gloves came out between the two candidates.

Trump shared that his "Project 2025" American Plan would "have no sales tax." He later claimed, on one occasion, that Project 2025 had nothing to do with him and that it was created by a group of people that he made appear as if he had no knowledge of. Until Harris claimed that Nobel laureates said Trump's Project 2025 plan would increase inflation and land Americans in a recession. Picture Source: Wix Media

Where  Trump claimed that Nobel laureates stated that his Project 2025 Plan was an acceptable economic plan, plus implied that  by enforcing a 20% sales tax on everyday goods that the American public purchases would not concern Americans "because many things are 50, 60, 70, and 80% higher than they were just a few years ago." By making this statement position, Trump to look uncaring and that a 20% tax on everyday items that American citizens would likely purchase is trivial plus indifferent. And that is not a good look for any presidential candidate.

During the debate, Trump highlighted the significant revenue generated during his time in office from China through tariffs. He pointed out that the current administration is using the tariff enforcement measures put in place by his administration. The discussion around Trump's administration imposing taxes on China was intriguing until he repeatedly emphasized the influx of people entering the country from prisons, jails, mental institutions, and insane asylums. He claimed unvetted and insourced populations were taking jobs and consuming unconventional food sources such as cats and dogs. Gif Source: Wix Media

Trump, as the Republican candidate throughout the debate, continued to claim how "criminal and illegal the mass insourcing of immigrants residing here in the United States." While not connecting the dots that the Sanctuary Movement of the 1970s was supported plus organized by the Christian Coalitions leadership that has controlled the Republican Party since 1981.  That said policy was signed into legislation by Republican President Ronald Reagan, the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986 (IRCA). As a result of the fear of the Black citizens voting power enforced by the Civil Rights Act of the 60s.  Among other provisions, this gave lawful permanent residence status to undocumented immigrants. Without this piece of legislation, pushed through by Sanctuary Movement, Republican Party Leadership, Evangelical Political organizers, Central American political organizers and churches, plus Christian Coalition leadership Jerry Falwell, Billy Graham, Pat Robertson, Ronald Reagan (before and after he became president,) plus The Christian Broadcast Network on T.V. the United States would not have the millions upon millions of unvetted immigrants that entered into America for the last 40 years at least.

To make a long story short, the more the debate continued, the more Vice President Kamala Harris proved to be the more capable candidate. With whom's educational background, plus training under President Biden and other trustworthy democratic party affiliates, reflected that she would more than likely be the type of president who would not run out into the political world and embarrass the United States of America. Unlike Trump's past performance on the international stage when he was president for four long years may have brought a portion of the 13,392,453 viewers remembering Trump's cringing behavior like the ghosts of Trump's international representation of the United States past. That chilled a large portion of the American public to the bone. Plus, it marked a not-too-long-ago history of the former president of the United States unsavory misconduct on the public stage. That may be something that American citizens would want to avoid. Gif Source: Wix Media

Kamala Harris and Donald Trump went back and forth on issues of Ukraine, which was informative but did not address the fact that when President Trump was in office, it was he who blocked the early investment in military resources that would have positioned Ukraine to have the necessary military capability that would have more than likely prevented Russia's attack on Ukraine. Something the Biden-Harris administration would have never done. Trump's actions to block military aid to Ukraine during his administration is one of the strong variables that assisted in the "civilian death toll in Ukraine exceeding 11,520 human lives as of July 31, 2024."

The debate was a cross of effective direct provable rebuttals per Vice President Kamala Harris as well as for the ABC News Team of Linsey Davis and David Muir. Where Davis had to correct Trump when he publicly implied that in America, "nine-month term babies are aborted." Which implies that babies are murdered at birth here in America which is triggering plus insensitive to viewers who may have experienced mis-carriages or stillborns during their preganancies. ABC News Moderator Linsey Davis rebuked Trump publically that his statement was untrue concerning America's policy regarding nine months old babies. A short time later Harris rebuked Trump with a shutdown statement to Trump when Trump once again raised up the accusation that the 2020 election was stolen from him. And that he lost "by a whisker." Where with Harris stated publicly to his face that "81 million American voters fired him." (Ouch!)

Although neither candidate delved into the issues of poverty among American citizens, caused in part by the overpopulation of 11 million unvetted immigrants who have entered North America over the years, nor the corporate crime wave, where billion-dollar corporations avoid or underpay their taxes all while having access to millions of millions of dollars in grants, which could be better invested in American citizens. In addition to, the importance of Israel complying with international laws was not addressed in the first debate between Harris and Trump. Nevertheless the debate provided a clear view of their qualifications and who seemed to be more trustworthy to lead the free world in 2025. Gif Source: Wix Media
