This month's beauty holds a special place in the relaunched Echo, NJ's oldest Black-owned newspaper. When asked to be our Black beauty representative, she graciously said yes and shared her testimony on how she got over. She continues to shine her light of life, beauty, and grace in her friends, family, and all who meet her. I introduce to some and present to others Sista Kim Jones.

Kim is a mother of two adult children and a grandmother of five grandsons; she knows the importance of celebrating women. Kim told the relaunched Echo that she has worked "in a medical facility as an Analyst for 30 plus years," and she desires to become a spiritual counselor and work with battered women. Jones shares, "We are caregivers, nurturers, and so much more. Our work is never done, but we keep going and strive to become the best version of ourselves."

Sista Jones' life is a testament to resilience. Raised in the projects by her grandmother, she became a teenage mother and still managed to graduate from high school, pursue vocational training, and even graduate from Bible college.

But Sista Jones' dedication to caregiving is genuinely admirable. She shared, "I've raised two of my grandsons and now share an apartment with my second-oldest grandson, who has special needs. And through it all, I've learned the importance of celebrating ourselves and taking time to appreciate the little things."

Kim's message of self-celebration is empowering. She encourages women to always feel good about themselves, not just on special occasions but every day. We are more than our breasts and hair, and we should always be our authentic selves. By putting God first and surrounding ourselves with good energy, we can overcome any obstacle.

As a 12-year breast cancer survivor, Sista Kim Jones knows the power of perseverance and determination. Kim leaves us with these words of wisdom to all women: "Keep going and never give up. Remember that no one loves you more than you, and always celebrate yourself and your accomplishments. Together, we can overcome any challenge and achieve our dreams." Sista Kim Jones's favorite scripture is Philippians 4:13: " I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me."

So remember Sista Kim's Rules of encouragement:

  1. Always be your authentic self. Celebrate yourself every day, not only on special occasions.

  2. Most importantly, put God first and surround yourself with good energy.

  3. Remember, no one loves you more than you.

  4. Take time to smell the roses."
