Fed Chair Powell Warns of Economic Dangers from Trump's Unprecedented Tariffs

Washington D.C. — President Donald Trump's sweeping policy changes, particularly on tariffs, are unprecedented in modern history, placing the Federal Reserve in a challenging position, according to Chair Jerome Powell. Speaking at the Economic Club of Chicago, Powell highlighted the significant tariff increases and the potential for lasting economic damage. These tariffs could lead to weaker growth, higher unemployment, and faster inflation, creating a situation the Fed hasn't encountered in decades. Powell noted the tension between the Fed's goals of full employment and stable inflation.

As Powell spoke, US stocks tumbled, with the Dow, S&P 500, and Nasdaq all experiencing declines. The Fed plans to hold steady until clearer data emerges on the economic impact of Trump's policies. However, economists warn that tariffs could soon drive inflation, increase unemployment, and weaken growth, especially if reciprocal tariffs are reinstated. Trump's tariffs include 25% on aluminum, steel, and certain imports, with further duties on the horizon. Powell emphasized that tariffs are likely to raise prices, impacting the public. He warned of potential stagflation and clarified that tariffs are not paid by foreign countries, as Trump claims. As tariffs continue, unemployment and inflation are expected to rise. LACEY NJ -- Per a report shared by Veronica Flesher titled South Jersey Wildfire Swells To 12K Acres, April 23, 2025, in the Middletown Patch. According to officials from the New Jersey Forest Fire Service, a wildfire that started in Barnegat, New Jersey, has grown to cover 12,000 acres and is now about halfway contained. The fire led to the evacuation of 3,000 residents and the closure of some roads. However, by Wednesday morning, the Garden State Parkway and Route 9 were reopened, and evacuation orders were lifted, although driving conditions are still tricky due to limited visibility.

Aircrews have been conducting observational flights to help manage the fire and improve containment efforts, and firefighters are tackling remaining hotspots using a helicopter to drop water on them. In response to the situation, Lt. Gov. Tahesha Way has declared a State of Emergency in Ocean County. On Tuesday, safety measures caused power outages for 25,000 customers, but most have restored their power.

As of Wednesday evening, 12 buildings were still at risk from the fire, and one commercial building had been destroyed. Fortunately, no injuries or fatalities had been reported.

Blackdoctor.org -- According to Dr. Maya Johnston-Stone's article on Blackdoctor.org, titled: 'Can Oral Sex Cause Cancer? 5 Symptoms to Look For' even though overall cancer death rates are on the decline, there's a concerning rise in HPV-related cancers, particularly oral and anal cancers, among both men and women. HPV, a widespread sexually transmitted infection, affects nearly 7% of Americans, with men showing a higher rate of infection than women. Alarmingly, HPV has now surpassed tobacco as the leading cause of throat and oral cancers. While many people with HPV may not realize they have it since it often clears up on its own, some can develop serious health issues, including genital warts and various cancers like cervical and throat cancer. Researchers are investigating why certain individuals are more susceptible to cancer than others. One study indicated that cancer patients were more likely to have had oral sex, often starting at a younger age. The main risk factor for oral HPV and subsequent throat cancer is having multiple oral sex partners. Smoking also heightens this risk and can lessen the effectiveness of treatment. While the HPV vaccine's effectiveness in males is still being studied, it is nearly 100% effective in preventing cervical infections. Notably, throat cancer, particularly in the oropharynx, has traditional risk factors like tobacco and alcohol use. However, 35% of recent patients reported no history of smoking, with 90% testing positive for HPV. To learn more, please follow this link:
