Systematic Racism/Social Justice

In the heart of New Jersey, a troubling crisis is unfolding that has gone largely unnoticed: the disproportionate homelessness affecting Black citizen families. As the relaunched Black-owned Echo Newspaper, now available on the Echo News TV LLC platform, delves into this pressing issue, it sheds light on the systemic factors contributing to this growing epidemic. Reports indicate that the influx of non-citizen populations, fueled by the Sanctuary Movement initiated by Southern Evangelicals, has significantly impacted the lives of long-time Black residents who have called New Jersey home for generations.
According to a recent study by the New Jersey Housing and Mortgage Finance Agency and Monarch Housing Associates, the findings reveal that overcrowding of both non-vetted and vetted insourced workers, primarily from Central and South America, is a problem. Many of whom entered the country as Southern Evangelical and Christian Coalition "Sanctuary Movement" non-citizens, who openly and aggressively broke Federal laws by the 100 thousand upward to a million, in areas deemed "Sanctuary States and counties. As a result, this strategy purposely pushed primarily Black Americans out of their place or origin, plus homes, with the help of affluent Italian and Jewish non-profits such as "Interfaith Neighbors" for example as well political organizations that have a history of racism towards Black citizens for decades.
Advocates Shine Light on Rash of Deficient Evictions In NJ:

Hence, Black citizens for decades have had no idea that the immigrant American population they vote for, advocate for, plus trust which tends to be Hispanic, Asian Indian, Italian, and or Jewish, holds no care or regard for Black American children unless they can make a profit off of Black citizens oppression, Black children's displacement, or mass incarceration, which is dangerous and uncalled for. But when you do not understand or know true world history as well as American history which is currently denied in public and private American school systems you will not understand who you are dealing with as well as who's assisting with these decades long systematic oppression tactics operated by unfriendly co-citizens. Who by the way thrived while utilizing all the rights plus legislation to make America a more hospitable place to reside pushed through by Black citizens. But moreover, said minority populations climb the ladder to success in the area of becoming:
- Policy Makers
- Judges
- Lawyers
- Successful entrepreneurs
Utilizing rights enforced by Black citizen who are systematically blocked from utilizing the rights plus resources their ancestor left for them to excel in. As a result the before mentioned factors have been a key driver of homelessness among Black citizen families for the last 30 years. The NJ Counts 2024 report highlights that nearly 50% of those experiencing homelessness in New Jersey are Black citizens, underscoring a crisis that has persisted for more than two decades. With unprecedented levels of economic strain, the long-term effects of mass incarceration and lack of access to housing resources have left many Black American families at risk, perpetuating a cycle of poverty and displacement, plus re-incarceration as a result of being homeless.

The Echo's investigative reporting highlights a stark juxtaposition in housing policies favoring non-citizens who are often granted assistance within a week, while Black families languish on waiting lists that extend for years. According to the Racial Injustice in Homelessness and Housing in the United States report, these practices reflect a systematic undermining of the Black community, rooted in centuries of racial bias.
The urgency of this moment cannot be overstated. Black American children in New Jersey are bearing the brunt of this crisis, with heartbreaking statistics indicating an alarming rise in feelings of hopelessness and despair. Local reports have cited tragic instances of suicide among children as young as eight, revealing the dire consequences of homelessness and displacement. As the Echo Newspaper continues to advocate for these communities, it raises pressing questions for New Jersey's policymakers. As gubernatorial candidates prepare for electoral debates, they are urged to provide concrete solutions to combat the displacement and non-preferential treatment of citizens that have damaged the fabric of Black citizenship in the state.

Three pivotal studies, including the state's Point-in-Time Count and extensive analyses by housing advocates, provide a roadmap for understanding this crisis. The evidence paints a picture of systemic neglect fueled by divisive policies and inadequate support systems. The need for equitable access to housing resources is paramount, as is the commitment to dismantling the illegal gerrymandering by Republicans' 50-year tactics, namely the Southern Evangelical/Christian Coalition Sanctuary Movement that has served to marginalize Black voting blocs.
The Echo implores community members, advocates, and policymakers alike to reexamine the conditions under which Black American families have been forced into homelessness—questions that remain urgent as New Jersey grapples with an ongoing crisis that has been both evident and persistent.

As the state moves forward, the struggle for justice requires not only reflection and acknowledgment but also action against long-standing inequities. The resounding voice of the Echo Newspaper will continue to champion the cause of Black American citizens, demanding accountability and equitable treatment for American families who have dedicated their lives to building the very communities they now find themselves fighting to preserve and or access. Echo News TV LLC will reach out to the gubernatorial candidates for governor to answer these questions then share their responses:
Attention: Democrat: Mikie Sherell & Republican Jack Citarelli
As gubernatorial candidates, what measures will you implement to address the systemic crisis of displacement experienced by Black citizens and families over the past 30 years, which has been exacerbated by the preferential policies favoring the Southern Confederate Evangelical and Christian Coalition Sanctuary Movement?
Moreover, what is the justification for New Jersey's endorsement of credit checks on federally funded project housing—funded by the long-term tax contributions of Black citizens—while Black families often face exclusion due to trivial issues or systematic false allegations? Conversely, how can it be reconciled that an insourced population, including a subset of non-citizens, has consistently received housing assistance before long-term citizens since 1999, extending to the present day in 2025?

For Echo readers, it is imperative to recognize and confront the decades-long injustice that has devastated Black American families in New Jersey, perpetuated by discriminatory policies, unchecked leadership, and the destructive impact of drug trafficking and immigration mismanagement by our Federal Government officials. Only through collective advocacy, accountability, and a commitment to reparative justice can we secure an equitable future and restore the rights and welfare of our most vulnerable citizens. Black American children.
