Only now, the sheets are replaced with suits. The crosses were replaced with congressional maps. The mobs were replaced with troopers clearing balconies and arresting brothers of elected officials. This is not a coincidence. This is coordination. But here is what the architects of suppression always forget: Black American citizens do not scare easily.   We have survived worse. We have outlived worse. We have buried worse. Memphis will fight. Tennessee will fight. The nation will fight. Because every time America tries to slide backward, the descendants of the enslaved rise up and say, “Not this time. Not on our watch.”
